Dall's porpoise are extremely fast and playful animals. While it is not uncommon to see porpoises in the Salish Sea, we do not get them surfing our wake every day. On this day, the Dall's were feeling extra social, as they swam right up to our boat and played in our bow wake. These are very challenging animals to photograph - they can swim at 30 nautical miles an hour! In this photo, I captured the moment right before the porpoise breaks surface to exhale. You can see the blow bubbling right under the thinnest layer of water. Freezing these moments that can barely be seen with the naked eye is one of my favourite things to do as a photographer.
